Research Grant Award
>Press Release
The ARPKD/CHF Alliance has awarded Dr. Rebecca
Wells, M.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology) and
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, a research grant award of
$50,000 to study a central issue, the fundamental pathway and
mechanism of liver fibrosis, focusing on non-inflammatory fibrosis,
unique to CHF.
Such research results are critical to therapies and may have
implications for other liver diseases.
The title of her project is:
TGF-B
Signaling and Cell-Cell Interactions in Congenital Hepatic Fibrosis
The
ARPKD/CHF Alliance received 10 Letters of Intent, and four
excellent, full research proposals upon invitation,
reviewed by our Research Committee
utilizing NIH Gold Standard Criteria.
Liver fibrosis and its complications are increasingly important as
individuals with ARPKD/CHF grow older and survive beyond the
neonatal period.
